Irvine has the most nationally accredited child centers in Orange County.  Services include referrals to licensed child care programs, access to financial assistance, and child care at public elementary schools.

With over 16,000 acres of parks and open space, Irvine offers guided and unguided recreational opportunities, such as horseback riding, adult athletic leagues, swimming and bird-watching.   In close proximity is Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park, which features four ball diamonds, six tennis courts, three soccer fields, batting cages, picnic shelters, rose garden, and more.   Other special places for a lunch break or to wind down include the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, UCI Arboretum, and Upper Newport Bay Nature Reserve and Ecological Preserve.

The City provides a variety of programs and activities to support working parents.  A variety of camps, classes, and activities are offered for children of all ages (preschool, grade school and teens).  For adults, the City hosts sports leagues for individual or corporate teams of all levels in softball, tennis, soccer, and basketball.  There are drop-in tennis programs (classes, match play, and pick-up matches), lighted courts, lap swim sessions before or after work, and master lap swim team and workouts.

The first metropolitan park of the 21st century of 1,300+ acres is under construction.  Currently, the Great Park features a visitors center, tethered balloon ride, agriculture farming, picnic tables and historic Hangar 244, and annual special events, such as summer outdoor dance/concert series, ice-skating, festivals, and more.

Biking and Hiking Opportunities
Irvine offers over 44 miles of off-road bike trails and 282 miles of on-road bike lanes throughout the City.   After work, hit the paved or natural trails for easy to strenuous hiking through open space and urban wildlands.

The Irvine Shuttle serves the Irvine Business Complex (IBC) area.  OCTA bus pass holders and Metrolink riders can ride the i Shuttle for free to restaurants, retail centers, Metrolink station, John Wayne Airport and several other stops in between.

This non-stop bus service between Irvine Station and LAX will be available beginning November 16.  Free on-site parking.

The Irvine Station is served by Amtrak and Metrolink, OCTA bus services, taxis, and Enterprise Rent a Car with complimentary parking structure, bike lockers, ATM machines, and food services.  The Tustin (Metrolink) Station is located at Jamboree and Edinger Avenue.

Stellar Education System
From innovative pre-school programs to world class doctoral studies, education is a cornerstone of Irvine.  Irvine public schools K-12 consistently rank among the finest in the country with more than 90 percent of Irvine high school graduates attending college.  The University of California, Irvine ranks tenth among all public universities.  Graduate and post-graduate studies are available at Irvine satellite campuses for California State University Fullerton, Pepperdine University, and Chapman University. 

Special Events
Irvine hosts several community and regional events all year long from marathons, health expos, sports tournaments, free outdoor/indoor concerts, to business conferences.  The City’s signature event is the Irvine Global Village Festival in October that features live entertainment, multi-cultural arts and cultural exhibits, international cuisine, kids fun zone, and global marketplace.
