 | Special Inspections | The City of Irvine uses the 1994 1998 edition of the Uniform California Building Code (UBC) (CBC). Within that document, the City enforces UBC section 1701.1 requiring special inspection for work listed under Section 1701.5 "Types of Work." The special inspectors shall be qualified persons who shall demonstrate their competence to the satisfaction of the Chief Building Official for their particular expertise. The City of Irvine requires special inspectors to possess a license or certification from recognized agencies such as ACI, ICBO, IAEI, AWS or other appropriate agencies which test and issue licenses for a particular expertise. Upon proper application, payment of a fee of $20 per inspection category, and verification of qualifications, the City will authorize a person to work as a special inspector in the City of Irvine.
