Lighting Studio

The Irvine Fine Art Center’s Lighting Studio is equipped with strobes and incandescent lights, umbrellas, soft box, tripod, C-stands, and background paper. This studio may be rented for your own photography sessions.

Users must take a free, scheduled orientation and pass a quiz demonstrating knowledge of equipment before using the studio. Call (949) 724-6880 for orientation schedule and to register.



Basic Studio Lighting

Learn to use strobes in a studio setting to photograph people. This introduction will present basic information on lighting equipment and its use in simple set-ups. Information taught applies to both digital and traditional photography. Lighting Studio orientation included!

Studio Shoots Workshops

Develop your skills at photographing with studio lighting set-ups. Studio Shoots are conducted by a professional photographer who will demonstrate various lighting set-ups, give helpful hints, and coordinate individual shooting by the participants. Each session runs four hours and has a limited enrollment to ensure plenty of hands-on experience. Training is provided in the use of strobes and related equipment. Models are present for demonstration and for practical shooting experience. Bring your adjustable 35mm camera (medium format is also acceptable) and film, or digital SLR camera. A tripod is optional. Recommended film is ISO 100 color slide film; you may also bring black and white film.

Prerequisites:

  • Basic knowledge of camera and studio equipment

  • Free one-hour Lighting Studio Orientation

  • Pass simple lighting equipment quiz

  • Some Studio Shoots will have a prerequisite of Basic Studio Lighting

Lighting Open Studio

Once you are familiar with the equipment in the Lighting Studio, you may rent the studio to do your own photo shoots. Included are strobes and incandescent lights, umbrellas, soft box, tripod, C-stands, and background paper. Users must take a free, scheduled orientation and pass a quiz demonstrating knowledge of equipment before using the studio. Call (949) 724-6880 for orientation schedule and to register.

Open Studio Schedule:

  • Mondays 3:00-9:00 pm

  • Tuesdays 10:30 am-9:00 pm

  • Thursdays 10:00 am-2:30 pm

  • Saturdays 9:30 am-2:30 pm
