City Alternative Fuel Vehicles Help Reduce Pollution
The City’s Fleet Services division is committed to making its operations as green as possible. With help from a Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) grant, the City recently purchased a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) street sweeper and a CNG asphalt truck, bringing the alternative fuel fleet to 67 vehicles.
The City’s street sweeping fleet is now nearly 100 percent CNG operated, which is impressive given the team is responsible for maintaining more than 38,000 miles of curb. The CNG asphalt truck allows City crews to patch damaged asphalt and repair potholes, while lowering our carbon footprint.
MSRC programs have reduced air pollution by more than 8,175 tons.
