The Jeffrey Road Grade Separation project is approaching a major milestone. At the end of the month, the temporary railroad tracks will be removed to transition the Metrolink trains to the new railroad bridge. To minimize disruption to residents and businesses, work will be limited to two consecutive weekends around the clock.

The City of Irvine promotes voter registration and participation by encouraging all residents to be active voters. The registration deadline for the June 8 Primary Election is May 24. Registration cards are available at all Irvine community centers and the Civic Center.

The City Council recently approved 3% deferred loans for up to $25,000 to assist low-income Irvine homeowners with critical home improvement needs. The Residential Rehabilitation Program also assists homeowners with grants up to $5,000 for emergency repairs such as leaking roofs, faulty plumbing or electrical wiring, or other necessary repairs.

The City of Irvine expresses deepest sympathies to the citizens of Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake. The American Red Cross is working to send money, supplies and staff to Haiti in support of relief efforts.

The Irvine Ranch Water District provides drinking water to the City of Irvine and monitors the quality of water from its drinking sources. Through regular testing of 18 drinking water wells located in Santa Ana, the IRWD has never detected TCE in drinking water served to any of its customers. The IRWD does not have any drinking water wells that are located in the TCE plume emanating from the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. Also, the EPA in March 2009 noted that no "potential vapor intrusion problems" exist in Irvine neighborhoods because there is no TCE present to create those vapors.
