New Social Host Ordinance in Effect
On Thursday, December 22, 2011, a new Irvine municipal code addressing “Social Hosting” went into effect. This important ordinance will be an additional tool, enabling the Irvine Police Department to address the service of alcoholic beverages to minors at social gatherings.
The intent of the new ordinance is to deter hosts by holding them responsible for monitoring the service and consumption of alcoholic beverages by their guests. Monetary fines will be assessed via administrative citations to those found to be providing alcohol or allowing alcohol to be provided to minors.The protection of youth and families is of the highest priority to the Irvine Police Department. This new ordinance is the latest addition to the collection of effective strategies employed by the Department to safeguard the welfare of Irvine’s youth.
