Community Emergency Response Team Training Held at City Hall
Wednesday evening, February 1st, the Emergency Management Unit hosted what they hope will be a monthly training event for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members. The informative and always entertaining Sergeant van der Sluys Veer, presented information for CERT volunteers that they can take back to their neighborhoods and share with their family and friends.
The presentation centered on the importance of recognizing and reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement. The message to the more than 100 CERT members in attendance was, “If you see something, say something.” It is only through the relationship between law enforcement and community members that together, we can effectively focus on maintaining hometown safety and high quality of life.
Sergeant van der Sluys Veer took dozens questions during and after the presentation on a variety of topics. Also in attendance were Lieutenant Whalen, Senior Public Safety Assistant Tim Knight and Public Safety Assistants Frank Southern and Andrew Zelinko.
