Swearing in Ceremony Held for Commander, Lieutenant and Sergeant at City Hall
On Thursday, August 2, 2012, Commander Matt Mahoney, Lieutenant Dave Klug and Sergeant Tom Goodbrand were sworn in by Chief Maggard during a ceremony held at City Hall. Joining in the celebration were their families, fellow police personnel and colleagues from other police agencies.
Commander Mahoney was promoted from his former position as Lieutenant in the Office of Professional Standards. He will now be the Commander of the Portola area, a position recently vacated due to the promotion of Deputy Chief Hamel. Commander Mahoney holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Long Beach and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, Irvine. He received a Unit Commendation in 2004 as a member of the FTO program and in 2005 as a member of SWAT.
Lieutenant Klug will now serve in Operations Support where he will have both Watch Commander responsibilities and oversee the Community Outreach Unit. Lieutenant Klug holds a Master’s degree in Criminology, Law, and Society from University of California, Irvine and a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton. He received Unit Commendations as a member of SWAT and the Specialized Investigations Unit and in 2012 he was awarded a Meritorious Service Award.
Sergeant Goodbrand will be assigned as a patrol supervisor in the University area. Previously, Sergeant Goodbrand has worked as a Field Training Officer, Detective and School Resource Officer. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Management from University of Redlands and is a graduate of the Next Level Supervisory Program at California State University, Fullerton. Sergeant Goodbrand is a recipient of the Medal of Courage, the Officer of the Quarter award and was named the Officer of the Year in 2008.
