Congratulations Diane Lawrence!

Friends and family gathered with members of the Irvine Police Department on Thursday, August 30, to bid “Aloha” to Diane Lawrence. Although somewhat against her wishes, the retirement celebration was planned by Chief Maggard due to an overwhelming desire of Diane’s collogues to wish her well.  A compromise was struck when Diane sat in the front row rather than taking a chair center stage while several coworkers and former coworkers made presentations.

Much like her unassuming personality, Diane has been an unseen yet strong and guiding influence in the Department throughout her more than three decades of service.  Having the distinction of serving every Chief of Police since the City’s incorporation, Diane has been an invaluable source of context in many important decisions over the years and has had a hand in training many others that continue to serve in key roles throughout the City.

In addition to her regular duties, Diane is known for her participation in the annual Special Olympics Torch run and, most recently, for her impressive performance representing the Irvine Police Department in  the  in the Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay.

The celebration included a slide show crafted by Tim Knight.  The images highlighted Diane’s active family and community life and served as a preview for all the fun ahead.

Congratulations to Diane Lawrence on her retirement… and of course, “ALOHA” to Diane and husband Dale as they head off for the Islands!
