Sergeant Miller Sworn In as the Department’s Newest Sergeant
Wednesday afternoon, Barry Miller was sworn in by Chief Maggard as the Department’s newest Sergeant. Barry’s family, friends and coworkers were joined by his extended OCFA family and colleagues from the Long Beach Police Department during a ceremony in the Emergency Operations Center. It was standing room only to watch the ceremony and congratulate Sergeant Miller as he takes on his new role as a formal leader within the Department.
Sergeant Miller began his law enforcement career with the Long Beach Police Department in 1993 where he worked assignments including Patrol, Vice, Warrant Service and DARE. Since joining the Irvine Police Department in 2006, Sergeant Miller has worked in Patrol Operations as a Field Training Officer, served as an Arrest Control Techniques Instructor and most recently was assigned as and Arson Investigator at the Orange County Fire Authority Headquarters.
In 2003 and 2004, Sergeant Miller was presented with the Long Beach Police Department’s Employee of the Quarter award and in 2011 and 2013 he received Unit Commendations from the Irvine Police Department for his work as part of the Specialized Investigation Unit and the Detective Bureau respectively. Sergeant Miller is a graduate of California State University, Northridge. In addition to the swearing in ceremony, Sergeant Hutchcraft presented Sergeant Miller a plaque and team photo on behalf of the Specialized Investigations Unit.
