Irvine Senior Travelers is currently seeking a volunteer to assist with clerical and computer tasks, hours vary between 10-15 per month.  Volunteer must have a computer and email.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory Tour
Tuesday, April 22
On this exciting day trip, you’ll have a chance to go behind the scenes to see rocket scientists at work at one of our country’s premier space labs! The day begins with an elegant three course lunch at McCormick & Schmick’s in Pasadena, then we will head to Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for the afternoon. Your 2-1/2 hour guided tour of the JPL begins with a media presentation entitled “Welcome to Outer Space”. From there you’ll embark on a walking tour that takes you to the Von Karman Visitor Center, the Space Flight Operations Facility and the Spacecraft Assembly Facility.

Cookin’ on Campus at Cal Poly Pomona
Wednesday, April 30
This great tour begins with a guided tour of the cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg’s original home. Pasadena architect Myron Hunt, designed the main house, which is over 8,700 square feet. Following the tour of the house, you’ll head over to The Collins College of Hospitality’s restaurant on the Cal Poly campus for a special lunch prepared for you and served by the students. After lunch you’ll stop over at the campus to watch students training Arabian horses. A final stop at the campus Fruit Stand rounds out this fun day at the Kellogg Ranch

Buddhas & Temples Tour

Your day will begin as you travel to Hacienda Heights to visit the Hsi Lai Buddhist Temple. You will have an introduction to the Buddhist religion on your guided tour of this spiritual and cultural center. Lunch is included at the Japanese restaurant, Benihana’s. You will take your seat around Teppan tables where the chefs perform their culinary magic. Following lunch you will visit the Workman & Temple Homestead in the city of Industry.

L.A. Nostalgia with Angels Flight

You’ll be amazed with the Los Angeles treasures from yesteryear that will be showcased today. Jonathan our expert L.A. step-on-guide will provide a fascinating perspective of some of L.A.’s best-known and nostalgic landmarks. Highlights include visits to the Biltmore Hotel, Union Station, Grand Central Market, the Bradbury Building (pending filming), the Garment District, California Plaza and Olvera Street. Also, an included ride on the recently re-opened Angels Flight, known as the shortest railway in the world. A stop will be made during the tour for lunch on your own. Our travelers are always amazed at the amount of knowledge and appreciation for Los Angeles that they gain from Jonathon’s tours and the nostalgia that it generates!

Little Italy - San Diego

The Italians have a secret, it is their thirst for living! Local Italian guides from Little Italy Tourism will take you into this magical world of Little Italy’s neighborhood history. You’ll see and hear how the Italians of Little Italy overcame incredible hardships and still came out feeling that life is indeed worth living and that each day can be made beautiful! The tour unveils hidden neighborhood landmarks, historic Little Italy homes and makes use of intriguing archival photos showcasing the world that was. We also visit the breathtaking historic Italian church built in 1925-unlike any other you may see this side of the Atlantic unless you travel to Italy. Griffith Park Observatory
Wednesday, July 9
Highlights include: lunch at the Saddle Ranch Chop House on Sunset Boulevard, a western style ranch home, with incredible atmosphere and extremely attentive wait staff. The Observatory a beloved icon of Los Angeles. The recent $93-million renovation and expansion project renewed the Observatory’s world-class standing. The 300-seat Samuel Oschin Planetarium Theater is the finest planetarium in the world. The opening show “Centered in the Universe” takes visitors on a cosmic journey of exploration and discovery. The Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater, a 200-seat presentation theater dramatically expands the Observatory’s programming and education capabilities. “The Once and Future Griffith Observatory” is a 20-minute film in which host Leonard Nimoy weaves the history, renovation and future of the observatory into a tale of inspiration. (Seating on a first come, first served basis.)

Jersey Boys

Jersey Boys is a jukebox musical. It is presented in a documentary-style format that dramatizes the formation, success and eventual break-up of the 1960s rock ‘n roll group The Four Seasons. The musical is structured as four “seasons”, each narrated by a different member of the band who gives his own perspective on its history and music…The title refers to the fact that the members of the The Four Seasons are from New Jersey.
