Spring Edition of Inside Irvine and Summer Camp Special Mailed-Registration Begins!
This issue features a complete listing of camps offered through the City of Irvine's Community Services Department. This issue also features information about the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, the 3.5 mile connector for Irvine's beautiful open space, and important information about water conservation tips as part of our annual Earth Day feature. Inside Irvine offers course listings for hundreds of programs and activities for all ages and interests.

Through March 31 Irvine Has Heart Food Drive
The City of Irvine, in partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank, will kick off its annual Healthy Food Drive on Valentine's Day. Donations will benefit several Irvine Food pantry distribution programs. Residents are asked to donate healthy canned or non-perishable food items.

Through April 14 Tax Assistance Program
The City of Irvine, in partnership with Orange County United Way, Irvine Valley College and the Orange County One-Stop Center, is offering free tax preparation services to taxpayers who earned less than $60,000 in 2014. Call 888-434-8248 for more information and to schedule an appointment.

Exploring Bommer: It's All About the Earth Day Hike
Celebrate Earth Day (officially April 22) with a fun 2- to 3-mile hike in the wilds of the Irvine Open Space Preserve. We'll explore the uniqueness of Bommer Canyon and what makes it such a special place, discussing its past, present and future while enjoying the spectacular views and beautiful trails. This program occurs concurrently with the monthly Wilderness Access Day. The trails will be available for self-guided access from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Registration not required. Ages 8+.

Celebrate our planet this Earth Day while learning about the benefits of environmental stewardship through hands-on crafts and activities that make caring for the planet fun for all ages. Registration not required.

Parents DO Make a Difference
We all want the best for our children, but what are the traits that really matter in raising caring, successful and happy kids? Join Dr. Michele Borba, award-winning author of 22 parenting and educational books including Parents DO Make a Difference, as she presents practical strategies to help parents improve their child's behavior, self-esteem, character, attitude and resilience in school and at home. Seating is limited; child care is not provided.

Memorial Day Ceremonies
Memorial Day is a time of remembrance; a time for Americans to honor those who have given their lives while defending our nation. To honor our nation's fallen, the City of Irvine is hosting two Memorial Day events: Northwood Memorial Ceremony Held in partnership with the Northwood Memorial committee, the Northwood Ceremony will take place at the Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial and features presentations by Gold Star families. Please bring lawn chairs or a blanket for seating. Memorial Day Ceremony On Monday, May 25, the City of Irvine will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony in the Formal Garden at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park. Attendees will have the opportunity to memorialize our troops' sacrifice by writing down a brief remembrance to be posted on a memory board at the event. Cards will also be available for well-wishers to send a message of appreciation and support to members of Irvine's adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion

Studio Arts Festival
The Irvine Fine Arts Center will host the annual Studio Arts Festival. The juried Festival will showcase more than 100 Southern California artists and their original works of art in ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, painting, photography, fiber and glass. The Festival will also feature music, art demonstrations and food – including ice cream sundaes serviced in handmade collectible ceramic bowls. Free admission and parking.

Orange County Super Pet Adoption
This 9th annual event features more than 500 homeless dogs, cats and rabbits for adoption and includes a silent auction, opportunity drawing, low-cost microchipping and free advice from veterinarians and dog trainers. Admission is $1.

D.A.R.E. Movie Night 
Come on out for this D.A.R.E. sponsored event and enjoy a motion picture on the outdoor movie screen in Heritage Park. The Irvine Police Department and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) will bring lots of cool vehicles to check out. This family event includes bounce houses, a snack bar and field games provided by the Mobile Recreation Program. The movie begins at dusk. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Irvine Global Village Festival
More than 25,000 guests celebrate Irvine’s cultural diversity annually and experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of the world representing over 50 cultures. Guests enjoy the mosaic of music and dance on five stages; immerse themselves in cultural and religious displays; indulge in international cuisine; and shop in the world marketplace. This family focused event tantalizes tots with hands-on art projects, games, puppet shows, and activities in a giant, interactive Kids Village. The event was promoted as the #1 activity to attend in OC by OC Register and was highlighted at the Best Festival by OC Weekly.
