IRVINE, CA (September 03, 2013): Today, at approximately 10:40 a.m., an Irvine Police Detective was involved in a shooting. Irvine Police Detectives were in the area of the apartment community located at Medallion and Crested Bird in the City of Irvine, preparing to serve a search warrant related to a sexual assault investigation.
Prior to serving the warrant, detectives contacted the suspect in the parking lot of the apartment complex. As they were attempting to detain him, an officer involved shooting occurred, and the suspect was shot.
He was treated at the scene by Orange County Fire Authority paramedics and taken to a local hospital. The suspect, Ronald Williams, has been placed under arrest for CPC 288(a)(1) – Lewd or Lascivious Acts With a Child.
No police officers were injured in the shooting.
A handgun was recovered at the scene of the shooting.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation. The Irvine Police Department is also conducting a separate administrative investigation. Both of these are standard protocol following an officer involved shooting.
