IRVINE, CA (March 31, 2014):  April is Earthquake Preparedness Month and the City of Irvine would like to remind residents and businesses about the importance of being prepared. Taking simple steps today can go a long way in keeping you and your family safe.

Start by assembling a supply kit that is tailored to your family’s needs; develop a plan of action for meeting up with and communicating with family members; register your home and cell phones with the City’s iAlert system to receive emergency alerts and information; listen to 1640AM during an emergency for live updates, follow the City on Twitter and Facebook; and take a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course offered by the City.

For more information and to sign up for iAlert, visit, where you also can find details on what to have in your own emergency preparedness plan. The important message is the ability for you and your family to shelter in place in the case of a disaster.
