Shop with a Cop 2010

This evening Irvine Police personnel helped bring a little holiday spirit into the lives of 35 children and their families.  The Irvine Police Department teamed up with non-profit organizations Human Options and Team Kids for the fifth annual Shop-with-a-Cop outing.  The key sponsors of the event were Stonefire Grill and Target Corporation.

The kids and cops met at Stonefire Grill, located at 3966 Barranca Parkway, and were then paired up with uniformed police personnel who were at the event on their own time.  They then headed across the parking lot to the Target store for a shopping spree.  Each participating child received a generous donation of a $100 gift card from Stonefire Grill and a $25 gift card from the Target Corporation.  In many instances, police personnel contributed some of their own money to cover any difference when purchasing the gifts.

Following the shopping excursion, everyone returned to Stonefire Grill for a buffet dinner.  Additionally, the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity also contributed to the event by providing each family with a piece of hand crafted framed artwork.

The kids were chosen through local community groups and charities. Human Options helps battered women and their families escape domestic violence, while Team Kids gets youngsters involved with community service.

Finally, a commemorative photograph was taken of the children and their uniformed police escorts.  The photos will be printed with a holiday theme and provided to the kids as a warm memory.
