Garden Workshops Blooming at the Great Park

The Orange County Great Park is in bloom with its Winter/Spring Garden Workshop series beginning Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Great Park’s Farm + Food Lab. The Garden Workshops, developed in cooperation with the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners of Orange County, features instructions from gardening experts on sustainable home gardening practices. The Garden Workshops will take place on select Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. All workshops are free to the public, along with take-home project activities on select dates for an additional fee.

Planning a Colorful Spring Garden
Saturday, Feb. 18, 10-11 a.m.
Spring is right around the corner and nothing says springtime like colorful flowers. Discover the power of properly prepared soil, water-thrifty long-term bloomers, the benefits of mulch, and simple design techniques to create stunning flower beds or pots.
 
 
Hot Veggies for a Hot Season
Saturday, March 18, 10-11 a.m.
Get ready for amazing summer veggies! Learn tips on how to plan, plant and care for these delicious veggies in your garden, raised beds or containers. If you grow it, you will eat it – and kids will too!
 
 
Spice Things Up With Herbs
Saturday, April 1, 10-11 a.m.
Fresh herbs can be grown all year in containers or mixed into garden beds, and add fabulous flavor and nutrition to meals. Join us for an optional hands-on activity for participants to plant a pot with three herb varieties to take home. Registration and materials fee required for take-home project; lecture is free.
 
 
Create a Habitat Garden
Saturday, April 15, 10-11 a.m.
Explore which plants provide a habitat for native wildlife, how to plant and care for any size garden or container and what to expect throughout the seasons of the year. Then sit back and enjoy communing with nature!
 
 
Creating Colorful Container Gardens
Saturday, May 6, 10-11 a.m.
Transform any container into a stunning welcome accent, centerpiece or gift. Learn about design, plant selection, planting and care, followed by an optional hands-on activity for participants to create a take-home colorful container. Registration and materials fee required for take-home project; lecture is free.
 
 
The Power of Perennials
Saturday, May 20, 10-11 a.m.
Want a garden that keeps on giving year after year? Plant perennials and maintain beautiful colors throughout the seasons. Renowned speaker, television and radio personality Nicholas Staddon will share his insight of working with professional plant breeders, hybridizers and explorers.
