Disparate Forms: Ceramics from Irvine Fine Arts Center Ceramics Studio
Exhibition Dates: May 27–June 7
The ceramics artworks on view were produced by artists in instructor Patrick S. Crabb’s 8-week-long intermediate–advanced course which took place at Irvine Fine Arts Center during the 2025 spring quarter. The course emphasized wheel throwing and hand-building skills; artists were encouraged to develop unique interpretations of fantasy and anthropological themes. Throughout the course, artists were encouraged to develop their perceptual and imaginative ideas and broaden their cultural awareness of indigenous art and culture from across the globe. Countries and cultures that artists drew inspiration from include Australian Aboriginal, Chinese Miao, Ghanian Ashanti, Indian Naga, Japanese Ainu, New Zealand Māori, and Peruvian Quechua. The resulting sculptures — unique mystical creatures that originate from land, sea, or air — feature unique hair adornments and incorporate “cold finishes” such as acrylic, latex, paints, oils, and stain finishes.
