Message from the Chief
When the Irvine Police Department was founded in July 1975, who could have imagined that 41 years later, its sworn officers would be serving and protecting the 258,000 people who now live in our City?
As we have changed and grown into a big city, Irvine has thrived thanks to its innovation and diversity. It has been aided to its full potential by a police force whose mission has, throughout its existence, remained constant: Working in partnership with the community, the officers of IPD strive to preserve the peace, uphold the law with fairness and provide quality service.
This is just one of the many things that make Irvine so special — a partnership between citizens and officers that allows the City to be defined by the willingness of its people to form a strong community. More importantly, it’s a partnership that helps IPD recognize its aspiration of being a world-class leader in policing, and a model for character, innovation and service.
Integrity, Quality Service, Accountability and Respect — these are the founding values of the Irvine Police Department, and you’ll find these values at play in the stories shared within this, our inaugural edition of the 24/7 Community Newsletter. The name represents that we are here for you, our residents, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Thank you for connecting with your Irvine Police Department. I wish everyone a safe, happy holiday season.
