History—familial and historical—and the haze of memory inform Gretchen Batcheller’s paintings on view in Mirror. Situated between abstraction and representation, her paintings critically revisit her family’s generations of military service, as well as her earliest memories of living on military bases throughout Japan.
Gretchen Batcheller is a painter and Assistant Professor of Fine Art at Pepperdine University, Malibu, California. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
