City of Irvine Launches Interactive District Dashboard in Advance of the November Election

Wednesday, September 11, 2024

The City of Irvine launched a voting district dashboard to inform residents of key features and facilities within the City of Irvine in advance of the November 5 election. This resource is intended to better educate residents on their districts and create a more informed community.

On October 10, 2023, the Irvine City Council approved a resolution to adopt the City of Irvine’s first voting district map for district elections. After an extensive public feedback and engagement process, the City Council selected a final map. In March 2024, Irvine voters had the opportunity to vote on Measure D, a Charter Amendment to expand the City Council from five to seven members and establish six City Council districts, while maintaining an at-large Mayor.

Measure D was ultimately approved by 59.8% of Irvine voters, and the first district-based elections will occur for Mayor and Council Districts 1, 2, 3, and 4 at the November 5, 2024, General Municipal Election. These positions are elected by Irvine citizens and are non-partisan. The Mayor serves at-large for a two-year term. Beginning with the November 5, 2024, election, one Councilmember from each of the four Council Districts designated 2, 3, and 4 shall serve a four-year term. The Councilmember from District 1 shall serve a two-year term. The terms of the Councilmembers are staggered.

The interactive district dashboard was created to empower Irvine residents by providing them with a comprehensive and interactive tool to familiarize themselves with their specific districts and the resources available to them. By offering detailed information on district boundaries, key features, City facilities, and points of interest, the dashboard aims to educate voters in advance of the upcoming election.
