The City of Irvine is accepting applications for the City Council seat that was vacated when former Mayor Donald P. Wagner resigned his post on March 26, 2019, after winning election to the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Pursuant to the City’s Municipal Code, Mayor Pro Tem Christina Shea subsequently assumed the role of Mayor.
The City Council can now appoint a new Councilmember from a pool of qualified applicants.
To be eligible to serve on the City Council, applicants must be 18 years old; registered to vote in Irvine; and available to attend meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
Residents who meet the qualifications must submit the application form, questionnaire, 200-word essay and a Statement of Economic Interests Form 700. All forms must be submitted together. Application materials are available by clicking the "application" link below or in person at the Irvine Civic Center, 1 Civic Center Plaza.
Applications are due May 3, 2019, at 5 p.m. No late applications or postmarks will be accepted. Applications may be submitted electronically, through the U.S. Postal Service or by hand delivery to the City Clerk’s Office.
Applicants may be invited to interview with the City Council during a special meeting on May 14, 2019. For questions on the application process, call 949-724-6205 or email mollymclaughlin@cityofirvine.org.
