City of Irvine Invites Input for the Library Strategic Plan

The City of Irvine invites the community to help shape the future of the Irvine Public Library by providing input on services, programs, collections, and spaces.

Since opening this summer, the Irvine Public Library has expanded programs for all ages and launched a Library of Things collection. As the library continues to grow, community feedback will play a key role in guiding priorities and planning for the next phase of library services.

Community members are encouraged to share their perspectives on library programs, preferred collections, and concepts for library facilities through a survey, public meetings, and email submissions. There are several opportunities to provide input.

Take our Survey: The survey is available online through Sunday, November 16, at irvinepubliclibrary.org. Surveys are also available in print at all library locations.

Attend a Community Meeting:

  • Monday, September 29, 6:30 p.m. – Deerfield Community Center, 55 Deerwood West
  • Thursday, October 23, 6:30 p.m. – Quail Hill Community Center, 39 Shady Canyon Drive
  • Wednesday, November 12, 6:30 p.m. – Portola Springs Community Center, 900 Tomato Springs

Send an Email: Share your feedback via email to irvinepubliclibrary@cityofirvine.org.

This fall, community feedback will be combined with research and analysis to identify priorities for Irvine Public Library collections, programs, services, and spaces. The 2026–2029 Library Strategic Plan will be available on the City website in spring 2026.

Background

On May 16, the County of Orange closed the Heritage Park and University Park Library locations. The libraries were officially transitioned to the City of Irvine on July 1 and opened as the first branches of the Irvine Public Library on Sunday, August 3. The Katie Wheeler Library is under County of Orange management until December 31, and will be transitioned to the City beginning January 1, 2026, for a three-year lease. Heritage Park is owned by the City, while the other two locations operate on limited-term leases. Additional locations, expanded space, and increased services are being explored to meet the needs of the community.

These planning efforts aim to ensure that library growth and development reflect the needs and perspectives of residents and users, guiding the system’s evolution for years to come.

The Heritage Park Library Branch is located at 14361 Yale Ave. The University Park Library Branch is located at 4512 Sandburg Way. The community meetings are free and open to the public.
