Megan's Law
In 1994, 7-year-old Megan Kanka was tricked into Jesse Timmendequas' house in Hamilton Township, New Jersey, where she was raped and murdered. Timmendequas was a convicted sex offender with two prior convictions for sexual abuse of a child. He was later convicted of the murder of Megan.
Following the death of Megan, the Federal "Megan's Law" was signed permitting law enforcement to release relevant information to the public about sex offenders.

How do I register as a Sex Offender?
Registration will be done by appointment only. Please call 949-724-7251.
If you have ever been convicted of a sex offense, you may be required to register under California law as a sex offender. You will need to check with the Irvine Police Department’s Investigations Bureau to see if the sex offense for which you were convicted requires registration, including any out-of-state sex offense convictions. It is a crime to fail to register and may count as a third strike.
In addition to Megan’s Law, there may be additional restrictions concerning your status as a sex offender, such as living near schools and parks. You should contact the Irvine Police Department Investigations Bureau for further information regarding these restrictions. Additional information concerning your sex offender registration is also available from:
