City of Irvine and MemorialCare Partner to Provide COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic

Friday, February 19, 2021

Through the leadership of Mayor Farrah N. Khan, the City of Irvine and MemorialCare partnered together to offer a COVID-19 small trial vaccine clinic for Irvine’s most vulnerable seniors.

“I’m thrilled to be able to provide vaccines to our City’s most vulnerable residents,” said Mayor Farrah N. Khan. “The City Council and I have listened to residents’ requests and needs to bring vaccines to the City, and this is just the beginning of the great work my COVID-19 Task Force is capable of achieving through our partnerships.”

The small trial clinic took place Friday, February 19 at Lakeview Senior Center. Seniors vaccinated include the City’s most vulnerable population – residents who are homebound and receive Meals on Wheels and Congregate Meals, in addition to residents that are part of our senior communities that may have limited access to vaccination resources. Community members who participate in the City’s senior activities and members of the Irvine Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) age 65 and over were also eligible to receive the vaccine.

City staff set up the vaccination site at Lakeview Senior Center, managed registration, and provided transportation to those who were unable to get to the vaccination site. A total of 200 Irvine seniors were vaccinated at the trial vaccine clinic, 71 of these being homebound seniors. Of those vaccinated, half were 65 to 74 years of age and the other half were age 75 years or older.

With 18,418 seniors aged 65 and over in the City; and 11,878 over the age of 75, the City of Irvine is making it a priority to get seniors vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“MemorialCare is honored to partner with the City of Irvine to administer COVID-19 vaccines to the city’s most vulnerable population,” said Dr. Mark Schafer CEO of MemorialCare Medical Group & Greater Newport Physicians. “We are excited to continue our vaccination efforts in partnership with the City of Irvine in the coming weeks.”
