The City of Irvine invites community members of all ages to explore the essential services that keep the City running at the 2026 Public Works Week Celebration. The free event will take place Thursday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Great Park in Hangar 244.
Hosted by the City of Irvine Public Works & Sustainability Department, the event offers a behind-the-scenes look at the vital role public works operations play in daily life. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet City staff, learn about upcoming projects, and gain insight into career pathways in public service.
Guests can get an up-close look at a variety of public works equipment, including dump trucks, street sweepers, tractors, and traffic control vehicles. Interactive exhibits and staff demonstrations will highlight how these services support a safe, sustainable, and thriving community.
Food will be available for purchase, and visitors can participate in activities to earn prizes and giveaways throughout the event.
This year’s National Public Works Week theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” will be celebrated nationwide from May 17–23, recognizing the contributions of public works professionals.
