Irvine, Calif. (June 19, 2018): Another 48 acres of amenities are now open at the Orange County Great Park’s Sports Complex. Opened to the community on June 15 were six new synthetic soccer/lacrosse fields; a natural turf flex field that can accommodate four additional soccer fields; four basketball courts; and a restroom and parking lots. They add to the mix of 53 acres that opened in August 2017 as part of the developing Sports Complex that enhances the Great Park’s 1,300 acres.
The 48 acres are part of 130 acres of playfields and trails that will open this year. Next up are the Great Park Trails that are 1-mile-long from Irvine Boulevard to the Championship Soccer Stadium; baseball stadium and fields; softball stadium and fields; and a Children’s Play Area. Visit ocgp.org for a complete list of park amenities.
The City’s park system is growing in other areas as well: Quail Hill Community Center and Eastwood Village Neighborhood Park are newly opened; Portola Springs Community Park (25 acres) opens this year; and Los Olivos Community Park (15 acres) opens in 2019.
