Irvine, CA (Feb. 1, 2016): The Irvine Police Department (IPD) has arrested a man for residential burglary. The suspect is identified as Matthew Samuel Kozlov, 20, of Anaheim.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2016, Kozlov was attempting to climb through a window into a home on Columbus and was interrupted by the resident. The suspect fled on foot and the resident contacted IPD. No weapon was used and no property was taken.
IPD officers responded and began a search with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) helicopter.
After fleeing the scene on Columbus, the suspect fled through the area and entered an unlocked garage on Glenn, from which he stole small personal items. He then fled that home and jumped over a fence into the backyard of another home on Glenn. The resident of the home was in the kitchen and observed an unknown man in the backyard. The resident ran out the front door and a neighbor called 911.
Kozlov entered the home through an unlocked rear patio door and hid in the upstairs attic. IPD responded to the home and began an interior search with assistance from two OCSD K9s. Several unsuccessful announcements were made for the suspect to reveal his location. One K9 was ultimately placed up in the attic and located the suspect, who sustained a dog bite to each arm.
The suspect was arrested at the scene without further incident. He was found in possession of some of the stolen property from the unlocked garage.
