Memorial Day: A Day of Remembrance in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif.: Memorial Day is a time of remembrance, when Americans honor those who have given their lives while defending our nation. The City of Irvine is hosting two Memorial Day events to pay tribute to our nation’s fallen.

Northwood Memorial Candle-lighting Ceremony

On Sunday, May 29 at 4 p.m., a special candle-lighting ceremony will be held at the Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial. The ceremony, presented in partnership with the Northwood Memorial Committee, will include presentations by Gold Star families. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. The Northwood Memorial is located at 4531 Bryan Ave.

Memorial Day Ceremony

On Monday, May 30 at 10 a.m., the City of Irvine will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Col. Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park. Attendees will have the opportunity to memorialize our troops’ sacrifice by writing a brief remembrance to be posted on a memory board. Cards will also be available for well-wishers to send a message of appreciation and support to Irvine’s adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion.

For more information or to download a remembrance card, visit cityofirvine.org or call 949-724-6606. Col. Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park is at 4 Civic Center Plaza. Guests are encouraged to park in the lot at Harvard Avenue and San Juan Street.
