Northwood High Threat Linked to Hoaxes Nationwide

Irvine, Calif.  (April 14, 2017) -- A threat against Northwood High School received April 13 has been been determined by the Irvine Police Department to be a hoax linked to others received across the nation. All of the recent incidents were determined not credible. IPD detectives are cooperating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in an attempt to identify suspects in this case.

On April 13 at approximately 1:40 p.m., a call came in to the IPD nonemergency line. The caller, who claimed to be a student, said he had locked himself into a bathroom at Northwood High and was in possession of guns and explosives.

IPD officers responded to the school and placed it on lockdown. As officers searched the campus, students were released to their parents one classroom at a time. An exhaustive search ended with no suspects or suspicious circumstances found.

The investigation into this case is ongoing. There is no threat to the school or the community at this time.
