A Public Forum will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, to update the community about operational findings and recommendations concerning the Irvine Animal Care Center. Led by Dr. Rick Greenwood, interim manager, the Public Forum, “Planning Our Way Forward,” will include details of the City Council-directed report by JVR Shelter Strategies.
The public is invited to hear about the process moving forward regarding animal spaces, cleaning protocols, housing modifications and development of a more structured volunteer program with a foster-on-deck component. The Irvine Animal Care Center cares for and adopts out about 2,000 animals – mostly dogs, cats and rabbits – each year.
“It is clear from the report that as good as any shelter is, the best thing we can do for our animals is reduce their length of stay,” says Greenwood. “Aggressive marketing is one of the tools we need to use moving forward in promoting the Center to a community and region full of potential adopters.”
In addition, Dr. Greenwood will seek input on community interests related to policy decisions such as community vision, goals of the Center and definitions on adoptable animals.
No RSVP is needed. The Public Forum will be held at the Civic Center. Details of the JVR report can be found at cityofirvine.org.
The City of Irvine also is recruiting for a permanent Animal Care Center Manager; deadline to submit applications is April 24.
