Southern California Edison working to restore power to most overnight

Irvine, Calif. (Aug. 3, 2019) – Engineers are working on a plan to restore power overnight to most customers impacted by a power outage that began Friday evening, Southern California Edison reports. Follow @sce on Twitter for the latest information.

A Care and Reception Center for those affected by the power outage remains open at Northwood Community Center, 4531 Bryan Ave., until midnight. The facility serves as a cooling and cellphone charging center. Accommodations will be made for pets. Pet owners should bring food, water and other supplies for their animals. Dogs should be on a leash, and other animals should be in appropriate carriers.

Additionally, all City of Irvine facilities are designated cooling and cellphone charging centers. Get details on hours and locations here.

The City of Irvine has set up a light tower at dormitories at the University of California, Irvine, should power still be off at that location at dark.

Throughout the day, the Irvine Police Department has diligently responded to critical care calls for service from those with medical concerns.

“The City of Irvine and Southern California Edison are working in partnership to respond to the emergency our residents are facing. The safety and comfort of our residents is of the utmost importance. I am so relieved to hear that residents can expect power to be restored very soon,” said Irvine Mayor Christina Shea.

The Irvine Police Department continues to patrol areas impacted by the outage. Traffic is also being monitored. All traffic signals impacted by the power outage are expected to have power by Saturday night, though some may remain on red flash.
