Assembly Bill 368 Amendment Proposes Golf Course Site for Southern California Veterans Cemetery

Earlier today, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva announced the proposed amendment of Assembly Bill 368 supporting the Golf Course site as the future home of the Southern California Veterans Cemetery, as designated by the Irvine City Council on July 23, 2019, during a special joint meeting. This amendment will remove the previous location, Amended and Restated Development Agreement (ARDA) site, from the bill.

“I would like to commend Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva for her action to amend AB 368 to support the Golf Course site, as initiated by City leadership, on the former MCAS El Toro located in the Orange County Great Park as a compromise to the proposed ARDA site that was not financially feasible to develop,” said City of Irvine Mayor Christina Shea. “We are optimistic the State Senate Appropriations Committee will approve the amendment, send the bill to the Senate and the Assembly for approval and in conclusion to Governor Gavin Newsom for signature. The City of Irvine is looking forward to working with the State of California to negotiate the transfer of the Golf Course Site to the State, as quickly as possible, to realize a true resting place for our American heroes.”
