A 70-year-old female bicyclist has died from her injuries after being struck by a vehicle.
This morning at approximately 9:59 a.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to a reported traffic collision involving a bicyclist and a gray Mercedes Benz ML350. The collision occurred near the intersection of Portola Parkway and 261 toll road.
OCFA pronounced the bicyclist deceased shortly after arrival. The decedent’s identity is not being released at this time.
The driver of the Mercedes remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the next several hours due to road closures on Portola Parkway from Forge to the 261 toll road.
IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this case. Anyone with information should contact Motor Officer Mike Bergstrom at 949-724-7212 ext. 2046.
