California Clean Air Day

October 7 is California Clean Air Day built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to action to improve our community health. By joining together for a unified day of action we can create new habits to clear the air for all members of California’s diverse communities.

When it comes to air pollution, we can all do our part. Whether you’re an individual, business, government agency or nonprofit organization, there are things we all can do to improve air quality and protect public health. In a state with some of the worst air pollution in the United States, it is imperative that we do.

Take the Clean Air Pledge and commit to do your part to clear the air on October 7 and every day, through actions big and small:

Switch It Out

  • Change or clean your home air filter
  • Change your car cabin air filter
  • Replace gas-powered yard tools with electric- or hand-powered tools
  • Switch to using natural all-purpose cleaner only
  • Make all online purchases in one order each week
  • Buy produce locally
  • Eat no meat for at least one day
  • Install an air quality monitor at your home

Plant Something

  • Plant a home garden or plot in a community garden
  • Plant a tree
  • Plant an indoor plant in your office and/or home

Reduce Vehicle Emissions

  • Telecommute/attend meetings remotely
  • Walk or bike to the store or transit stop
  • Take public transit
  • Carpool/vanpool
  • Bring a lunch to work or walk to lunch
  • Don't idle your engine
  • Switch from an old gas-guzzler car to a hybrid or zero-emission vehicle

Take the Clean Air Pledge

Receive a Prize

After taking the pledge, forward your confirmation email to environmentalprograms@cityofirvine.org to receive a prize of a reusable cotton mask, while supplies last. The first 150 participants that send in the pledge confirmation will also receive a reusable shopping bag. Prizes will be mailed to participants. The campaign runs until October 8.

Even though we cannot all be together, we can all virtually come together to make a difference. Learn more about California Clean Air Day at cleanairday.org
