Mayor Farrah N. Khan’s COVID-19 Task Force Launches First Initiative

Irvine Cares Campaign Encourages Residents to Pledge to Prevent COVID-19

IRVINE, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2021): The City of Irvine launched Irvine Cares, the first initiative of Mayor Farrah N. Khan’s newly assembled COVID-19 Task Force. The campaign invites the public to slow the spread of COVID-19 by pledging support of mitigation measures which includes acting as an advocate to ensure the health and safety of Irvine’s most vulnerable.

Through Irvine Cares, community members pledge to protect one another by wearing a mask, washing their hands frequently, practicing social distancing, and staying home when sick. They commit to practicing kindness and good judgment by being respectful of others, especially those who are at increased risk for severe illness, and to being an advocate by promoting best practices in preventing COVID-19.

“Irvine residents and businesses recognize that protecting our community is a shared responsibility and have put many health guidelines into practice over the past nine months,” said Mayor Farrah N. Khan. “As we begin the new year this pledge encourages each of us to renew our commitment to caring for our neighbors, friends, family, and our community as a whole through our actions.”

Community members can take the pledge online at cityofirvine.org/irvinecares or download a pledge card and mail it into the City. Once they have signed the pledge, their name will be included on the “I Pledge” website. The Irvine community is asked to share the pledge on social media using #IrvineCares. All pledge takers will receive an Irvine Cares face mask, sticker, and decal to highlight individual commitment to being kind and protecting the Irvine community.
