Irvine Mayor Farrah N. Khan Delivers State of the City Address

Mayor Farrah N. Khan delivered her State of the City Address virtually from the Irvine City Hall Council Chamber on February 23. Topics included COVID-19 impact and City response, community investment and development, cultural diversity, City awards, and the celebration of Irvine’s 50th anniversary.

In her address, Mayor Khan reiterated her commitment to investment in and the development of the City in the coming year. She highlighted the $17.7 million in rent relief, the formation of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and the commencement of a $2 million transportation pilot program. She also emphasized the coming $27 million in library upgrades, and the development of the much needed workforce housing for residents.

“I’m proud of our team, our partners, our residents, and the work we have done this last year despite the many challenges of COVID-19,” said Mayor Khan. “I look forward to what is next in 2021 and beyond.”

Mayor Khan reaffirmed her promise to maintaining the unmatched quality of life in Irvine, even amid the pandemic, by highlighting the City’s achievement for the 15th year as one of the nation’s safest communities, the City’s unparalleled educational partnerships, and the City’s continued commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The State of the City Address included a look back at what Irvine has accomplished in its 50 years of incorporation. Numerous City achievements and accolades were showcased, along with a celebration plan for the coming year. This event also included the unveiling of the City’s 50th anniversary logo.

The State of the City Address concluded with acknowledgement to all those lost to COVID-19, and the meeting was closed in the victims’ honor.
