The City of Irvine is excited to announce the reopening of the Great Park Carousel after undergoing renovations. Improvements to this family-favorite attraction at Great Park includes the repainting of 12 animals; replacement of the decking, mirrors, and artwork; re-polished brass; and new coats of polyurethane to keep the carousel in optimal shape for years to come.
Members of the public are invited to an official reopening ribbon cutting event August 12, 10 a.m. to view the updated Carousel. The renovation project began in 2020, with work performed mostly during pandemic-related closure. Work will continue on the remaining carousel animals, during times that will avoid additional closures to the public.
“The carousel has been a staple of community fun at Great Park for more than a decade, and we’re proud to unveil this improved version for Irvine families to enjoy,” said Irvine Mayor Farrah N. Khan.
The Great Park Carousel was built by Barrango Manufacturing in 2003 and spent its first years at Fashion Island in Newport Beach before coming to Great Park in 2010. Great Park is located at 8000 Great Park Blvd., in Irvine. The carousel is open 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m.–10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Single rides are $3, with all-day passes available for $10. Learn more at ocgp.org/carousel.
