The City of Irvine invites the community to take part in its Shoebox Parade event to honor the City’s 50th anniversary. Individuals and families are invited to design a “shoebox float” that features what they love about Irvine.
To join the “parade,” grab a shoebox or similar structure, and decorate it as a miniature parade float representing the places you love to go in Irvine, the things you like to do, your fondest memory of time spent in the City, or pay tribute to the City’s diversity and cultural heritage.
The application for the Shoebox Parade is free, and will include participants submitting a photo of their creation. Photos of all floats will be shared in an online Shoebox Parade on the City’s website and social media. The top three shoebox creations will be on display at the City’s premier multicultural event, Irvine Global Village Festival, October 9 at Great Park.
All ages are welcome to create a shoebox float, though applications must be completed by a parent or guardian for those 17 years and younger. All entries must be original works of art, and applications with photos of completed works are due by October 1.
