City of Irvine Wins 2021 Digital Cities Survey Award from Center for Digital Government

The City of Irvine received a 2021 Digital Cities Survey award from the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute focused on technology policy and best practices in state and local government.

Irvine ranked ninth place in the 250,000–499,999 population category for innovatively using technology to tackle social challenges, enhance services for the community, strengthen cybersecurity, and more. Specifically, Irvine was recognized for:

  • Continuing to invest in its Transparency Portal, providing residents with up-to-date information on development and capital improvement projects, budget and finance news, City contracts, and more; as well as offering residents and businesses easier ways to pay invoices online.
  • Enhancing its digital services during the pandemic to offer seamless, contactless services to the community and lessen interruptions to planning reviews and field inspections.
  • Providing Irvine residents an easy and accessible way to comment and participate in virtual City Council meetings.

“Our City’s resourceful use of technology was especially important during the pandemic, and I’m proud of the innovative ways we’ve continued to utilize state-of-the-art platforms to engage with our residents and create new avenues for citizen engagement,” said Irvine Mayor Farrah N. Khan. “Our Information Technology team’s and City staff’s commitment to continuously providing new digital services — both at City Hall, at our community and senior centers, and remotely — plays a key role in improving the lives of our residents.”

The City will join all top-10 ranking cities in each of the five population categories to be honored during the Digital Cities Awards and Workshop event December 8.
