A 69-year-old male bicyclist has died after colliding with a vehicle.
This morning at approximately 7:24 a.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to a reported traffic collision involving a bicyclist and a white Ford F-550. The collision occurred on Alton Parkway, between Mauchly and Technology East.
OCFA pronounced the bicyclist deceased shortly after arrival. The decedent’s identity is not being released at this time.
Preliminarily, it appears the truck was stopped at the side of the road while workers were performing landscaping duties when the bicyclist collided with the back of the truck. The driver of the truck remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the next several hours due to road closures on eastbound Alton Parkway from Mauchly to Technology East.
IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this case. Anyone with information should contact Detective Roberto Solis at 949-724-7024.
