IRVINE, CA (Sept. 28, 2015) – The City of Irvine again reports the lowest per capita violent crime rate in the nation for cities greater than 100,000 population. Irvine also recorded its lowest per capita overall Part 1 crime rate in the City’s history.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation published its Annual Uniform Crime Report today, September 28, 2015, for Part 1 crime reported January through December 2014. Part 1 crimes include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, auto theft and arson.
“I am very pleased that Irvine remains the Safest City in America within our category,” said Mayor Steven S. Choi. “I am proud of and thankful to our citizens, City staff including my City Council colleagues, and particularly the men and women of the Irvine Police Department who collectively focus their energy on public safety. We are now a City of more than 250,000 residents. As we become bigger, we remain safe.”
