Discover a Study in Suspended Motion Through Contemporary Glass Sculpture

Thursday, July 24, 2025

The City of Irvine is pleased to present Greg Price: Smooth Ripple, a solo exhibition by Irvine-based artist Greg Price, on view from August 14 through December 12 at Irvine City Hall. The community is invited to a free opening reception Thursday, August 14, from 2 to 4 p.m., which includes an opportunity to meet the artist and learn more about the inspiration behind the works on display.

For more than a decade, Greg Price has explored the physical and conceptual boundaries of glass as an artistic medium. In Smooth Ripple, Price transforms this traditionally delicate material into bold, dimensional forms that appear suspended in motion. Using high-heat manipulation and precise craftsmanship, the artist captures fleeting gestures — ripples, waves, and organic shapes — as permanent objects, frozen in space and time.

The exhibition features a series of vibrant, wall-mounted glass sculptures that challenge our expectations of weight, texture, and form. Alongside the finished works, visitors will gain insight into Price’s process through in-depth descriptions on tools and materials, offering a deeper look at the technical and creative forces behind each piece.

Smooth Ripple invites viewers to reconsider what glass can do — and what it can express — through a collection that feels at once fluid and structured, delicate, and powerful.

As part of the Art at City Hall initiative, this exhibition supports the City’s commitment to nurturing artistic talent and making local artwork accessible to the community. The Art at City Hall series rotates seasonally, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative works to the heart of Irvine.

City Hall is open to the public 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday. The exhibition and parking are free and open to the public. For more information, visit artsinirvine.org/artatcityhall.
