Arts in Irvine proudly announces the award winners of the 41st Irvine Annual, a juried exhibition showcasing outstanding works by more than 70 artists across the country. Formerly known as All Media, the exhibition highlights a diverse range of visual media, from contemporary explorations of pressing cultural issues to modern interpretations of historic myths, stories, and materials.
This year’s guest jurors — Elizabeth Múnzon, artist and owner of Múnzon Gallery; Dakota Noot, artist, curator, and Acting Director of the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion at Orange Coast College; and Stephanie Sherwood, artist and curator — selected the following awardees:
First Place: José Loza, Infant Memory
Second Place: Matthew Carter, Spirit Board
Third Place: Emilene Orozco, Fruit of Our Labor
Honorable Mention: Rachel Joy, Dysmorphia
Honorable Mention: Nikki’s Darkroom, anthrophilia xy
Honorable Mention: Lana Licata Manzo, Hug Your Dog
This year marked the debut of the Viewer’s Choice Award, inviting visitors to cast their vote for the artworks that resonated most and left a lasting impact. This inaugural honor was awarded to Javier Cortes for his photograph Cholito.
The 41st Irvine Annual opened with a public reception July 12 and continues at the Irvine Fine Arts Center through August 30. The exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to experience the breadth of contemporary art practice and the perspectives of artists from varied backgrounds and disciplines.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday. The exhibition and parking are free. The Irvine Fine Arts Center is located in Heritage Community Park at 14321 Yale Ave. For more information, visit artsinirvine.org or call 949-724-6880.
