As the June 2 Primary Election approaches, temporary campaign signs may be displayed more frequently around Irvine. To help keep our community safe and visually-appealing, please follow the rules for Temporary Non-Commercial Signs (Sign Type #107).

When Can Signs Go Up?

  • For the June 2, 2026, Election: Under the updated Zoning Ordinance Section 7-3-3, the "event" is defined as Election Day itself.
  • Permitted Start Date: Signs may be displayed no earlier than 39 days prior to the event. For this election, signs are permitted beginning Sunday, April 24, 2026.
    • Note: Signs placed before this date are considered premature and may be subject to removal costs.
  • Removal Deadline: All signs must be removed within 10 days after the event (by June 12, 2026).
  • Non-Event Signs: Signs not tied to a specific date may stay up for a maximum of 39 days total.

Where Can Signs Be Placed?

  • Private Property: Allowed with the owner's permission.
  • Public Right-of-Way: Allowed; they must be at least 12 inches apart and cannot be attached to City property (utility poles, trees, or traffic signals).
  • Stay Clear: To keep drivers safe, signs cannot block "sight distance triangles" or obstruct the view of traffic signals and regulatory signs.
  • District Elections: Signs are only permitted within the specific District where the election is taking place.
