In partnership with the City of Irvine, Waste Management is hosting a free paper shredding event Saturday, August 20, at the Lakeview Senior Center. Irvine residents can safely and securely dispose of up to five banker-size file boxes (dimensions: 24 inches x 12 inches) at a mobile shredding unit on-site. The event is first-come, first-served, and will end when truck capacity is reached. Customers who wish to watch their paper be shredded will need to park in a designated area away from the truck and staff.

The City of Irvine invites the community to the inaugural Pride in Irvine event Sunday, May 22, 9–10:30 a.m., at the Irvine Civic Center Piazza. The gathering will feature the raising of the Progress Flag in front of City Hall in honor of Harvey Milk Day, and in preparation for June Pride Month.

Great Park announces the opening of its latest art exhibition at the Great Park Gallery: Phillip K. Smith III: Shared Light. The exhibition runs Sunday, May 29, to Sunday, August 28. An opening reception for the exhibition will be held Sunday, May 29, 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibition, opening, and parking are free and open to the public. 

Location: Farm + Food Lab

Learn the benefits of urban worm farming and how worms create ideal organic fertilizer. This make-and-take class includes a mini-vermicompost box and a starter set of worms for a $15 material fee. This is a great class the entire family can participate in (enroll one family member).

Workshop is free. Registration is required and space is limited. Ages 12+. Sign up at yourirvine.org

The farm comes alive through stories and activities in two sessions on Sunday, September 4:

  • 10–10:30 a.m.
  • 10:45–11:15 a.m.

While visiting the Farm + Food Lab, give a book and take a book from our Little Free Library. 

Registration is required at yourirvine.org. Parent participation required. Ages 3–6.

It's crafty, sustainable, delicious, and fun. UC Master Food Preserver chefs will demonstrate how to preserve what you harvest or purchase. Different items each session based on what is growing in the Farm+Food Lab. Workshop will be conducted online by the UCCE Master Gardeners of Orange County. 

On September 10, take a walk around the Farm+Food Lab to preserve what is ready to harvest. Items change based on what is in season and ripe for harvesting.
