Did you know that every 12 minutes somebody in the United States dies in a traffic collision? In 2006 more than 42,642 people were killed in traffic collisions while another 2.5 million were injured. I cannot think of a better reason for wearing a seatbelt.

The Irvine Police Department is pleased to announce the creation of three new positions. Recognizing that traffic is a primary concern for many of our residents, we have selected three area traffic officers to address neighborhood traffic complaints, utilizing creative, proactive approaches. Each of our area traffic officers have been assigned to one of our geographic areas. If you are concerned about speeding vehicles in your neighborhood, parking violators, abandoned vehicles, or other any other traffic related issue, please contact your area traffic officer.

The Traffic Unit is responsible for enforcing the traffic laws, investigating traffic collisions, and assisting the Public Works Department in finding solutions to traffic related challenges. The Traffic Unit also oversees the Parking Enforcement Unit, Commercial Enforcement and the Crossing Guards at or near the local schools.
