A backyard compost is perfect for any household with a yard. It is a simple method that requires little effort and few materials.

How to Backyard Compost

There are several ways of composting including: placing materials in open piles, burying materials in trenches or enclosing materials in bins. It is important to remember that in order to heat up properly, compost piles should be at least one cubic yard in size.

Green Materials

  • Grass clippings
  • Garden trimmings
  • Green leaves
  • Fruit and vegetables scraps
  • Coffee grounds and filters
  • Tea leaves and bags

Brown Materials

  • Wood chips and sawdust
  • Straw and hay
  • Dry grass
  • Stale bread

  • Diseased or infected plants

Oak Creek Community Park is located in the Oak Creek (Planning Area 12) neighborhood of Irvine. It is bordered by Valley Oak Drive, Sand Canyon Avenue, business park uses, and a Southern California Edison (SCE) utility parcel/Barranca Parkway. Vehicular access to the site is provided off Valley Oak Drive. The park is primarily programmed for active sport use; however, a significant number of people access the park for passive recreation activities.
