On January 26, 2021, the Irvine City Council passed the resolution reaffirming Irvine's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the Irvine community and created the five-member Ad-Hoc DEI Committee to provide input on the needs of the community and advise the City Council in meeting its goals. In January 2022, the Irvine City Council directed the Ad-Hoc Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee to become a standing committee and expand its membership to seven committee members.
In honor of the City's 50th Anniversary in 2021, we invited residents, businesses, and visitors to participate in our 50th Anniversary Photo Contest, which captured the essence of Irvine — our neighborhoods and residents, open space, history, and events. The City received nearly 500 submissions from community members sharing their favorite photos representing culture and community, historical Irvine, the outdoors, and pets — as well as entries to a special category for budding photographers ages 17 and younger.
Scholastic chess players are invited to challenge their minds at the Staser Chess Tournament. It features a free K–8 non-rated section and a USCF K–12 rated section for an entry fee. Registration required using the links below by noon on Friday, August 20 (registration opens May 15). Ages 5–18.
