Megan's Law
In 1994, 7-year-old Megan Kanka was tricked into Jesse Timmendequas' house in Hamilton Township, New Jersey, where she was raped and murdered. Timmendequas was a convicted sex offender with two prior convictions for sexual abuse of a child. He was later convicted of the murder of Megan.
Following the death of Megan, the Federal "Megan's Law" was signed permitting law enforcement to release relevant information to the public about sex offenders.
