At the direction of the Irvine City Council, this past week COVID-19 testing capacity at the Great Park was expanded. The expanded testing capacity will continue into weeks three and four, and registration will reopen on Friday, July 24 at 12 p.m. to fill additional appointments.
On Wednesday, June 24, Irvine City Manager John Russo, in his capacity as Director of Emergency Services, released an amended Executive Order requiring the use of face coverings.
This amendment aligns with new guidance from the California Department of Health.
Economic Development
At a meeting on May 29, the Irvine City Council voted to establish a program to provide financial support to small businesses impacted by COVID-19. Funding for the Local Business Support Program comes from a $5 million grant from the County of Orange, through the federally approved CARES Act.

The City of Irvine is pleased to announce the Great Plates Delivered Program, a new home-delivery meal service from the State of California. The Great Plates Delivered Program helps qualifying older adults receive three free nutritious meals a day, while boosting our local economy.
On May 12, the Irvine City Council approved a four-phase plan for reopening City facilities, services, and programs. Tennis and pickleball courts set to reopen. Summer programs will be modified to include drive-in movies and concerts. Citywide drive-through testing program approved.
After careful consideration and following the State directive, the City Council voted to allow golf courses to open, based significantly upon the guidance set forth by the County of Orange, with additional City requirements in place for the protection of public health. View guidelines here.
Irvine City Council authorized City staff to schedule in-person adoptions by appointment only at the Irvine Animal Care Center. The Center will remain closed to the public for all drop-in services.
